SOUTH RAKKAS CREW ~ Mix Up LP (Mad Decent) : LP : Electro Dancehall : $28 ESSENTIAL!
The biggest and best release of the year for Jimmy Sing. South Rakkas have been a long favourite in the dancehall world, but Diplo has done right at pulling them over for a Mad Decent release, ripe to give them the bump to a new audience. Their trademark is electro-bounce dancehall, working with all the big vocalists Mr Vegas, TOK, Capleton etc..but doing so with a whole mash of influences. I've written about them over here in the 3D World column so for more gushing, read it. Otherwise, trust me that this is the funnest release in a long time - 10 tracks long, a full album's worth! Just mind the cover, it gets a lot more exciting than that!

KID SISTER ~ Pro Nails EP (Fool's Gold) : 12" : Club Action / Hip-Hop: $22 ESSENTIAL!
She's ready for the big time! Kanye West lays down a verse on her screwed-chorus jam, Pro Nails, produced by her beau A-Trak. Original and Instrumental also included. Then on the flip, Kid Sis rides a jukin' winner on Switchboard (a totally non-leaked track, yayy!) produced by Chi-town's old school Gant Man. Instrumental of that included also.

THUNDERHEIST ~ Bubblegum EP (ft GHISLAIN POIRIER RMX) (Big Foot) : 12" : Club Action : $21
Popping that sound like Kid Sister and Amanda Blank is Canada's Thunderheist, presenting their first EP here. It pops, particulaly with Ghissy Ghis Poirier and Wax Romeo cranking the bass and bounce on the remix options. Look out for these guys!

SAMMY BANANAS ~ High Top Fades EP (Fool's Gold) : 12" : 90's Dance Re-Edits: $22
A new easy club winner from Fool's Gold, in the vein of A-Trak's recent Dirty South Dance. This is Sammy Bananas having a love-in with a bevvy of 90's dance-hiphop favourites: Ini Kamoze's Hotstepper gets a rippin spacious wobble-bassline treatment, the Fresh Prince goes all off-beat house vibes, plus K7 and old house tune Funk Dat gets the bmore updating. Fun's a given with Mr Bananas up in ya place.



MIA ~ Jimmy (ft ELI ESCOBAR RMX) (XL Recordings) : 12" : Bollywood Club Action / Disco : $20
The Bollywood swang of MIA's Jimmy single (good name for a single huh!) is made all the more dancefloor driven with young gun on the rise, Brooklyn's Eli Escobar. He completed Hollertronix #7 with Diplo and produces a lot of edits with the Baltimore Bass Connection bringing a trademark disco-pump sound. Does not disappoint here.

SCOTTIE B ~ Money Lotion EP (Money Studies) : 12" : Baltimore Club : $22
O.G. lynchpin of the Baltimore Club scene lays down some foundational tunes: oldies like Niggaz Fighting, the Biggie sampling More to BK and the awesome soul-ridden Mo Club Medley; then new updates like Never Gonna Be Alone and Beautiful Girls.

DAVE NADA ~ Kick Out the Jams (T&A) : 12" : Baltimore Club : $22
Woah! Tittsworth's mate Dave Nada comes with a solid beef-up of the bmore sound as he lays down some wicked synth lines - a la Samir - under some switched up breaks. The biggest horn stabs come on the MC5 sampling Kick Out the Jams, but there are some awesome rap driven tunes like the Ying Yang Twins on Fat Bottom Girls and DJ Unk on Back It Up. Real solid EP.

Institubes make their first non-French signing with Curses! aka Drop the Lime from Brooklyn. His Curses! name is on some way old school house fuckery, but boy is this man doing it right: the epic opus Hungry For Love is on a throbbing beat all of its own, with breakdown after breakdown pushing you closer to the vampire!

SEBASTIAN ~ Killing in the Name Of / Walkman Re-Edit (Ed Banger) : 12" : Electro : $22 ESSENTIAL!
You've heard this tune before, um I think. Rage Against the Machine gets a slightest edit from Sebastian included a grinder of a bass over-dub and some kinda hilarious re-vocalling, but essentially the glory of Killing in the Name Of continues in all the ways that RAtM wished for! On the flip, we've got a 2nd version of Walkman from his Ross, Ross, Ross EP...this EP is promo only, with a limited run of 8 different So-Me interpolations of the cover, so it's a lucky dip really! Hurry for this one.
